Self-Portrait: Armenian Diaspora

Photography

This series is about how Armenians in the diaspora have their minds constantly thinking about the conflicts in Armenia and Artsakh while still having to continue with their daily lives, like attending classes and submitting assignments.

The series consists of several objects that represent Armenia, such as the pomegranate, which is the national fruit of Armenia, the khachkar, which is a carved stele with a cross and other additional motifs on it, and the Armenian alphabet, which are present on the piece of fabric and individually as sculptures.

The photographs also include objects that represent me as a student, such as a sketchbook and pencils. In addition, I included some news from articles because that’s one of the ways Armenians in the diaspora get informed about their country.
